THE CONTENDERS:

Susan Hayward as Helen Lawson		Patty Duke as Neely O'Hara

The Stakes: Veteran Broadway star Helen Lawson is throwing a publicity party in New York for her new play, which had received bad reviews in Philadelphia--when in walks Neely O'Hara. Neely, a rising star who Helen once dumped from one of her plays out of nothing but "top dog" spite, has crashed the party to show Helen she's now on equal terms with her (as well as rubbing salt in the wound of Helen's play being drubbed in the press). Neely, though, carries her own baggage, having just been released from a sanitarium for drug addiction. In the ladies' lounge, the two finally have it out. Who comes out on top? Ring the gong and make the call.
