Where YOU decide
which character out-whumps the other in catty dialogue.

THE CONTENDERS:

vs.
Katherine Hepburn
as Eleanor of Aquitaine
  Peter O'Toole
as Henry II

The Stakes:

For ten years, Eleanor has been held in prison for staging a civil war against her husband, Henry, King of England. During Christmas, she's released to join her family at Chinon, where Henry is due to disclose which of his sons will succeed him. Eleanor favors Richard, who she's gifted with the rich province of Aquitaine--while Henry favors his dullard son, John. Each plots to outscheme the other in order to get what they want; and in this supposedly cordial conversation, the undertones are deadly serious.

Who comes out on top?

Ring the gong and make the call.

Best. Movie. Ever. There wasn't a single bad performance in this. Nothing beats the scene between the two of them in their bedroom.

Tough call, but I'm going with Peter.

Ultimately, I think, Henry holds the cards. Though where machinations are concerned, I don't underestimate Eleanor for an instant. ;)

And she did outlive him by several years. Survival is the best revenge. :-)

Henry died in 1187.
Eleanor died in 1204.

In the movie, he wins (she goes back to prison), but in real life, she won.

This is my favourite movie ever.

Y'know, the odd thing is I played John in the play at my hometown (which is my name IRL) and while doing the play, I found out that my ancestry can be traced back to John and Henry II, so I played my ancestor!

Course, they also traced my history back to Charlemagne, who had kids but never married, so I guess I'm a bastard family line....

I still think it would be cool to list all of that in your program notes. ;)

I think at that point both she and Henry are agreed on "better luck next time." :)

Eleanor. Without a doubt. Any woman who would hang that from her nipples wins at life.
