Where YOU decide
which character out-whumps the other in catty dialogue.

THE CONTENDERS:

vs.
Joan Crawford
as Crystal Allen
Norma Shearer
as Mary Haines

The Stakes:

Mary's husband, Stephen, has been seeing Crystal on the side. Crystal hasn't been a stranger with Stephen's wallet, and has been spotted at a fashion fitting by Mary's nosy friends. Mary, who has up to now refrained from dealing with Crystal out of pride, becomes upset at the thought of Crystal assuming her place with her young daughter. In a fitting room, she finally confronts Crystal.

Who comes out on top?

Ring the gong and make the call.

I love that movie. Haven't seen it in a good 15 years but it's a classic.

Yeah, so many good scenes in this film. I particularly liked the "generational" talk with Mary and her mother about whether or not to live with Stephen's behavior.

I think so, too. Her character seems like she has more "street cred" than Norma's--I don't think Mary at this point was equipped to get down in the trenches with her.

Crystal wins the battle, but Mary wins the war, or so we are led to believe at the end.

And she languished two years before making her move, too. I guess there's something to be said for biding your time. :)
